About the Trust

The Trust acts as a "hands on" intermediary to the field, while at the same time communicating that experience and lending our expertise to policy makers (see NHT’s President’s Report). Accordingly, the Trust's activities fall into four categories:
  1. Public policy development funded in significant part by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur and Fannie Mae Foundations

  2. Technical Assistance and Training to local nonprofit organizations, resident associations and public agencies that are acquiring federally assisted and insured developments or preparing a local preservation strategy

  3. The provision of below market predevelopment or bridge loansto nonprofit groups who are acquiring affordable, multifamily housing.

  4. With our partner, the Enterprise Foundation, acting as an owner/developer, purchasing and renovating existing, affordable housing.

The Trust receives funding from the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur and Bank of America Foundations in furtherance of its mission. Additionally, the Trust supports its operations through compensation provided by affordable housing development, technical assistance and low interest loans to nonprofit organizations.

The Trust is interested in saving affordable housing in your community. If you are interested in working with us, please contact us at info@nhtinc.org or by mail/phone.
