• Federal "Exit Tax" Legislation Introduced in House and Senate; Legislation Would Provide a Much Needed Incentive to Preserve Affordable Multifamily Housing  Legislation introduced in the 110th Congress would facilitate the transfer of federally assisted housing to purchasers who agree to keep the properties affordable. Sellers of federally assisted housing would be exempt from the recapture tax liability as long as they sell their housing to a buyer committed to preserving the housing as affordable.

• NHT's Comments to the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform. The National Housing Trust submitted comments on September 28, 2005 to the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform. We share the concerns of many other housing groups regarding how any proposed tax reform could impact the preservation of the many at-risk project based Section 8 and older, FHA insured, multifamily properties.
